I have extensive, successful experience as a school and school system leader across both phases and have a particular interest in high leverage, collaborative forms of continuous school improvement that bring success for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. In 2022 I completed a PhD exploring whether democratic, impactful school improvement was possible in a Multi Academy Trust context. I am currently a part-time member of Birmingham City Council's school improvement advisory team.

I have worked across primary and secondary sectors, in inner city and rural schools, and at both ends of the privilege spectrum. I have developed policies, processes and systems that work in all of these settings to increase leverage, inclusion, engagement and collaboration in order to raise standards. Together these things transform culture and climate. Examples include:
1. Writing, and supporting others to write, broad and meaningful school and system visions. These include a wider understanding of excellence, pastoral care, learning and provision.
2. Setting targets and developing provision to achieve hundred per cent success at national benchmarks.
3. Designing planning that speeds progress. Connecting lines of work, mobilising all resource around shared priorities and measuring impact not action.
5. Structuring team decision-making and collaboration to share power and increase transparency.
6. Innovative budgeting that allows substantial investment in free, wide provision including in the arts and sport.
7. Developing wider systems of measurement that link to achieving our purposes and their milestones and that replace hierarchical accountability.
8. Using validated self-evaluation to improve teaching, learning and leadership.
9. Structuring opportunities for debate and disagreement.
10. Engaging staff and student perspectives on provision and improvements to strengthen a sense of belonging.
